Dr Karen Nyrop, DVM

Dr Karen Nyrop, DVM

Dr. Karen Nyrop has been an equine practitioner for 20 years and joined the practice in 2001. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota and then completed an equine surgery residency and masters program at Kansas State University.   Dr Nyrop then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she worked at an equine referral hospital, and later, had her own equine practice until her move to Calgary.  In the Phoenix area,  Dr. Nyrop’s practice centered around performance horses; Event, Dressage, Hunter/Jumpers, and some Arabian show horses.  Lameness and prepurchase exams were a large part of this practice’s workload, along with the routine health needs of these horses.  In her spare time (and weather permitting in Calgary!),  Karen rides at eventing and jumper competitions.

Dr Norman Wirth, DVM

Dr Norman Wirth, DVM

Dr. Norman Wirth is a 1991 graduate of Colorado State University. Dr. Wirth’s interest in equine medicine drew him to Columbia, Missouri where he helped to establish and later became an owner of a busy referral and primary care equine practice.  Dr. Wirth’s practice centered on all aspects of equine care but had a heavy concentration in reproduction.  The practice became the largest embryo transfer facility in the Mid-West. He co-authored a study that improved the pregnancy rates utilizing non-surgical transplantation.  Norm continues to enjoy the challenges of breeding.  He also developed an interest in and became certified in chiropractic manipulation of the horse.
